Scott Grunerud looking towards you

Hey there I'm Scott Grunerud👋,

Frontend
Developer

I'm a frontend developer with a passion for creating fast, accessible, and enjoyable user experiences. With a degree in Design and Global Business from the University of Waterloo, I bring a unique perspective to my development work, combining technical skills with a keen eye for design. Currently, I'm building cool things as a Software Engineer at Spare in Vancouver, BC.

Tech I'm Currently Using

These are some of the tools I currently enjoy using professionally, however I'm always eager to explore new technologies and techniques. In my off time I'm currently tinkering with Solid.js and Astro.

  • Typescript
  • React
  • Next.js
  • Expo
  • Astro
  • Node.js

My Work

  • test

    Planet Info Viewer

    Next.js - Styled-Components

I built this project using Next.js and Styled Components as a way to experiment with Static Site Generation and improve my component organization and project structure. The app allows you to learn about the planets in our solar system as well as view a 3D model of each one, or if you're on iOS you can see them in Augmented Reality.

  • test

    Shortly

    Typescript - Prisma - Next.js - Styled-Components

I built a full-stack URL shortening app using Prisma, Typescript, and Next-Auth, with features like passwordless authentication and integration with Google and Github accounts. While the app was fully functional, it is no longer available due to Heroku canceling its free tier. Nonetheless, it was a fun introduction to using databases.

  • test

    Typemaster Keyboards

    HTML - CSS

I built this brochure site as a way to refresh my knowledge of semantic HTML and clean CSS. While many developers tend to focus on the latest frameworks and features, I believe that good HTML, CSS, and effective use of browser APIs can go a long way in building high-quality websites. It was a fun project that allowed me to hone my front-end skills and produce a site that is both visually appealing and functional.

Experiments & Old Projects

Listed below are some of my older or experimental projects, which may contain less effective code, but demonstrate how much I've grown as a developer.

  • React - Node.js - Express

    Moodify

My first full-stack app was a playlist curation tool that allowed users to sort and filter tracks based on audio features such as tempo, mood, and energy. I played a major role in building both the backend and frontend of the app.

  • Node.js - Puppeteer

    Netflix to IMDB Bot

I hacked together a script that automatically rates the TV shows I've watched on Netflix on IMDB. This helps me find more shows beyond what's available on Netflix.

  • Processing

    Enviormental Data Visualization

I had the opportunity to collaborate with Jane Tingley on a unique art installation that aimed to creatively visualize live environmental data. We used a flowfield created in Processing to achieve the desired effect

Let's Build Cool Stuff Together
